大学入学直後、いろんな軽音サークルの新入生歓迎会に行ってみたが、高校時代の抑圧から解放され、騒ぎ立てる若者たち。ギャーギャーワーワー。
「何が彼らをここまで追い詰めるのだろう」
のちにワタシの入ったサークルは、大人しく飲みながら大人しく音楽について語っており、好感が持てた。

「落ち着いた雰囲気」(ワタシはBends)
8月、早速買ったベースを持って、軽音サークルの夏合宿に行った。1週間、長野の山奥の合宿所で毎日バンド練習をして、最終日の前日に発表会ライブをするのだ。

最終日前日、人生初めてライブ。合宿所の広間にアンプを設営して、一年生の女の子3人で組んだ即席バンドで、GO!GO!7188の「こいのうた」など、2曲をベースで演奏した。
え？ベース始めて1週間なの？
なんでそんなにすぐ弾けるの？
…と先輩や同学年の子に言われたが、それには理由があった…
