We arrived in America in June, 1988. the children of the United States was in
Summer vacation. There's no school until September, so in the morning, I went to the Learning Center. It's like a nursery school. just a short walk from my apartment.
There was about an hour and a half nap time, everyone was always forced to go to the bathroom before that.
I couldn't say in English, ``Excuse me, I just went to the bathroom about five minutes ago. I can't pee anymore.''
But the teacher, “No! Go to the bathroom!” glared at me,No, that's not it...I thought to myself, but had no choice but to go into the toilet stall for about a minute, wastefully flush the water, and go back. Such things happened sometimes.
“Huh….What should I say in English?”When I was 5, I was facing a language barrier! ︎

アメリカに着いたのは6月。米国の子供達は
夏休み真っ只中。9月まで学校がないので、
午前中は「ラーニングセンター」に通った。託児所みたいなとこ。アパートから徒歩で すぐの場所にあった
1時間半くらいお昼寝の時間があるのだが、必ずその前に全員トイレに行かされる。
ワタシは「先生、つい5分くらい前トイレに行きました。もうおしっこ出ません。」と英語で言えず、
先生に「ダメ！トイレに行きなさい！」と、キッ！とにらまれ、
いや、そうじゃなくて…と思いながら、仕方なく、トイレの個室に1分くらい入って、ムダに水を流して戻った。そんなこともあった。
「はぁ…。えいごで、なんていえばいいんだ？」
お題「泣きそうになった瞬間」 「言葉が通じない」
5歳のワタシは、言葉の壁にぶち当たっていた‼︎
