明治時代までは浅草に布業者が集中していたが、明治に入ると浅草は観光地化してしまい、立ち退きを迫られた布業者たちが日暮里に集団で移動し、新たな繊維問屋街を形成していった。昭和の終わり頃まで、日暮里には衣類の卸売り問屋が数多く立ち並んでいた。しかし高度経済成長期を迎えると、既製品を買う人が増え、衣類メーカーが生産拠点を海外に移したことで、日暮里は徐々に寂れていった。いま、ハンドメイドブームで復活している。
Summary
Until the Meiji period, cloth traders were concentrated in Asakusa, but in the Meiji period, Asakusa became a tourist town, and cloth traders who were forced to be evicted moved to Nippori in groups and formed a new textile wholesale town. Until the end of the Showa period, there were many wholesalers of clothing in Nippori. However, in the period of high economic growth, the number of people buying ready-made products increased, and as clothing manufacturers moved their production bases overseas, Nippori gradually became less prosperous. Now, it is being revived by the handmade boom.
